Hi there. My name is Lesley and the aim of this site is to introduce you to the wonders of the beautiful city of Barcelona in Catalonia, Spain. Hopefully you will be inspired by the information and images to take a visit there sometime. You will not regret it!
I will be doing reviews on many tourist locations and will hopefully provide a few tips to help you out with the practicalities along the way.
Barcelona is a unique city owing hugely to the work of the local architect Antoni Gaudi which adorns the city.
Some of his work includes the yet to be finished cathedral Sagrada Familia which has been under construction since 1882. Because it is still an ongoing work you will usually see scaffolding or cranes on part of the building!
Another one of his creations is La Pedrera – Casa Mila which is a building tucked down a street full of otherwise ‘normal’ buildings. It has his trademark Gaudi curvy lines and intricate mosaic work.
For those of you who are fans of art there are several places to visit in this city. There is the Museo Picasso which houses one of the largest collections of his work in the world. The Fundació Joan Miró has a large collection of paintings, sculptures and sketches by the artist. The Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya holds the World’s most important collection of Catalan art displaying pieces from the Middle Ages until the 1940s. . The Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona displays a collection of the main movements in 20th century art with a special emphasis on Catalunya and Spain.
For anyone taking children to the city (or just for the big kids among you) there is plenty to do.
